Ha’ Hill

Ha’ Hill was Morpeth’s first castle, a motte and bailey structure built in Norman times. It was described as a strong castle in 1095, but was built of timber and later destroyed. In the 12th century the castle transferred to its present site, ravaged by King John in 1215 and during the Civil War in 1644. The buildings within the walls were destroyed.

The Trail

As visitors gathered at Carlisle Park to see the elephant known as Miss D’Jeck, the circus was busy packing up its tent. Miss D’Jeck had taken fright and run off in the direction of Ha’ Hill. Everyone followed Maurice and his band of helpful guides from St Robert’s First School, in search of the elephant.
